Was Jesus in the grave for three days or only two?
Skeptics claim that Jesus failed to fulfill the prophecy about His death being for three days and three nights since Jesus died on Friday and rose on Sunday, but from the historical and biblical view, a new day started when it got dark, not at midnight.
Now, do you remember how darkness fell upon the land during Jesus’ death? It’s during this period of darkness, or night, that Jesus was buried.
Therefore, early Friday afternoon would be one night. Late Friday afternoon would count for one day, Friday evening would be the second night, Saturday during daylight is the second day, Saturday after sunset started the third night, and Jesus rose after daybreak on Sunday morning, which would count as day number three.
